Restoring ecosystems, tree by tree.
Community nurseries across the Itombwe highlands have produced nearly 690,000 tree seedlings.
UGEAFI implements environmental conservation and climate-resilience initiatives that protect natural resources, restore degraded ecosystems and promote sustainable livelihoods across Eastern DRC, integrating environmental protection into its agriculture, education, WASH and community programs.
Through community tree nurseries, UGEAFI has produced and distributed 690,000 tree seedlings to 3,000 households, 5 churches and 10 schools in Minembwe and Bibokoboko — species including Calliandra, Cypress, Grevillea, Mimosa, Cedrela, Acacia, Leucaena and Eucalyptus, chosen for their environmental and agroforestry benefits.
The organisation promotes agroforestry — integrating trees into farming to improve soil fertility, reduce erosion and provide fodder — and runs awareness campaigns, school environmental clubs and practical demonstrations that build long-term local ownership of conservation.
